Brambus BSIN02576377 Cueni, Eliane / Trio - Canavaa Eliane Cueni’s trio line up selects with preference very beautiful melodies. But these melodies are not only interpreted, much more the relative harmonic constructions functions as ground for the collective improvisation and becomes an enlargement of the songs. This happens with a lot of pleasure, a wide rhythmical elegance and interaction, but also with spontaneity and creativity. The trio is well experienced over several years of playing together and this trust is deeply noticeable and the different roles are often exchanged and free space observed, which happens rather rarely in this way. The musical perception of the three artists creates a very enjoyable unity.
The repertoire of the trio in these recordings contains partly jazz standards and bossa novas, but also self penned composition of the three artists, often pieces, that remember of older traditional songs. One of the musical secrets of the trio is the excellent use of the special abilities of three instrumentalists, such as Eliane Cueni’s impressive way to interpret melodies and to give melodic replies to sound constructions, meanwhile Gerstner’s outstanding groove, his warm sound and his interesting ideas as well as his exceptional solo accomplishments are another important part. Finally Bitterlin’s swing and the easiness of his use of dynamics, his way to commit himself to the existing and help to create an impressive whole.
This is not just another piano trio, this is an excellent new masterpiece of the known Swiss piano player Eliane Cueni and her sidemen. After her work with Gitte Kahle and the duo “Zut” her third outstanding release for the brambus family!
