In retrospect, these jazz Explorations are worthy of creative playing, and it is amazing to see how well this music has survived the test of time. When these pioneering efforts in the evolution of modern music were released, most critics considered them too complex; they were defined as controversial, abstract and absurdly avant-garde. Now, fifty years later, these early Jazz Composers Workshop recordings have become not only accessible, but widely accepted; they have contributed to open up all kind of musical doors.
