Hep BSIN02010189 (2 CD-Set) Herman, Woody - The Road Band 1948 Vols. 1 & 2 (2 CD-Set) The music on the discs speaks for itse1f and only the soloists have been identified to assist the listener. For the most part the broadcasts are from the six week residency at the Hollywood Palladium and shows how a top jazz orchestra had of necessity to double as a dance band, and at times a stage show. This explains the proportion of performances where Woody and Mary Ann sang and occasionally behaved as a couple of hepsters. (Alastair Robertson).
