Impro-Jazz BSIN01969470 (DVD-Video) Baker, Chet - The Complete Tokyo Concert 1987 The Celebrated Tokyo Performances Complete For The First Time Ever!
Excellent Image And Sound Quality! Seen By Fans Of Chet Baker As The Most Sought-After Footage Of The Late Trumpeter.
Chet Baker (Trumpet, Vocals), Harold Danko (Piano), Hein Van De Geijn (Bass) & John Engels (Drums).
Recorded At Hitomi-Kinen-Kodo, Tokyo, Japan, June 14, 1987.
This is a truly outstanding and long awaited release, as the present Japan concert is most certainly Chet's best-filmed performance ever. He seems to be in good shape and mood here, and plays and sings beautifully backed by Harold Danko's amazing piano. Nothing here seems to foretell Baker's death, which would happen less than a year later.
The program includes both classic standards Chet had recorded in his early years (and continued performing since), like the perennial "My Funny Valentine" or the opener "Stella by Starlight", some tunes by Baker's favourite jazz star, Miles Davis, and a few tunes he had added recently to his repertoire, like Elvis Costello's "Almost Blue". Chet displays his magic and the extraordinary sensibility that characterized him throughout this exquisite performance.
Four songs were recorded but unfortunately not filmed by Japanese TV. In order to give you the complete performance, we have included the missing tunes as audio bonus tracks.
