After successful & exciting years between 1975(!) and 1994 with countless great musicians participating and a big pause between 1995 and 2005, Tommy Böröcz & Rens Newland eventually succeeded (with some original members and some new blood) to make a real fresh & new start with this great funky horn & rhythm band.
„Still Funky After All These Years“ is an album rich of ideas, it’s offering all kinds of possibilities to use the 3 horns and the 5 rhythm players in a funky, jazzy surrounding. Some of the compositions go back to the old fusion days, others bring in recent sounds and grooves, or have a more Latin approach, as the group got direct inspiration on a South-America tour!
The musicians feel the production also as an hommage to the heroes of the Jazz-Rock and Funk orientied music of the 70s and 80s like Miles Davis, Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius, The Brecker Brothers, Dave Sandborn, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Larry Coryell, Dollar Brand, Billy Cobham or John Mc.Laughlin. They had a big influence on the general development of music! Also one the members of Ostinato is honoured here: Bumi Fian, the big trumpet player, who passed away much too early! He gave and took everything in playing and living! The recordings were basically made “live” in studio, the goal was to stay very natural, just a few adds and “tricks” were done!
