Bear Family BSIN02578593 Backus, Gus - Hillbilly Gasthaus The kid from Rhode Island could sing more than Schlager. In the 1950s, several years before he came to Germany, he was a member of the vocal group The Del-Vikings. Then, after some incredible successes in Germany, Gus went to Nashville in 1964 to record two albums which were identical except that Gus sang the songs in English on one LP and in German on the other. The German 'Hillbilly Gasthaus' became the English 'Hillbilly Inn.' Gus recorded well-known country songs like Tennessee Waltz, Saginaw Michigan, Don't Fence Me In, Home On the Range, San Antonio Rose, and On Top Of Old Smokey, as well as originals specially written for his Nashville trip. This CD contains the English and German versions of the original LPs.
