Aion Quintett - Tales of in-between

Brambus Records is proud to present you the AION QUINTETT and their new album "Tales Of In-Between", which bandleader Christian Berger is introducing with his own words as following:
Tales of In Between
Musical tales from Orient and Occident.
Should we classify this music now as World music or simply Jazz or even classical music? The question of category becomes important, when events and concerts are being promoted, programs printed and launched in the press. Being confronted with the question of classification, we find it very difficult to be specific about our music. When it comes to writing down inspirations and musical ideas, categories don’t matter anymore and they cannot be a guideline, when thoughts and notes should be brought down to paper.
As a musician and composer I am first of all interested in making music for the joy of it and in taking people on musical journeys in search of new horizons, sharing impressions and cross the borderlines of traditions. Tales of In Between bear many elements of Jazz and classical chamber music rounded up with oriental spices - improvised songs, music from Middle Eastern areas melting into European traditions, a crossover from Orient and Occident.
Influenced by my studies of classical guitar and Jazz guitar in the category "standard and free concepts" the songs are based on a clear pattern of structure. On the other hand there is room for extensive improvisation. 10 years of experimenting and experience in the world of theatre music and musicals have also left traces of dramaturgy in my musical comprehension and expression.
At a certain point in my career I felt drawn to oriental music, especially to the Oud (classical oriental short-necked lute), which is the essential instrument in the Arabian musical culture. They also call it: the "Sultan of instruments". For me personally the Oud has opened up an unknown dimension to the soul of Mideastern and European music – a deepness of soul which I would like to recreate and interpret in my musical work, share it with my colleagues and an audience.
Therefore it is our prime concern to tell stories, to take the audience on pleasant journeys by means of music. All that matters is that this music will be enjoyed by people and that it will be labelled as "good" music.
"Tales of In Between" – melting stories from Orient and Occident – music on a journey.
