Edelhagen, Kurt - Definition Of Swing

Kurt Edelhagen was born, June 5th 1920. He formed his first band in 1946 and by 1949 was recording for the American 'Empire' label. His trademark powerful brass ensemble sound, with jazz solos and driving percussion is represented on this compilation of recordings from the mid 1950s when Kurt Edelhagen's band was reaching beyond Germany to new audiences. A great admirer of Stan Kenton, Kurt placed great value on arrangers and evolved his own style. Kenton arrangers including Bill Russo contributed to the orchestra and combined with outstanding soloists to evolve the 'Definition of Swing'.
