SOELKNER is derived from the Salsa band LOS SEIS DEL SON, which already established a name on the Austrian live scene by touring and performing all over the country. The tight rhythm section began to experiment more by writing original material and then exchanging the drum kit for timbales. The compositions of pianist ROBERT SOELKNER utilize elements of Cuban rhythms, complex structures and Jazz harmony. The eight tracks of the CD represent a journey through Cuban rhythms, from Guagancó to Songo and back to Bolero. But there are different textures as well: along with shades of Bossa Nova, Blues and Bebop, here are modal passages and an atmosphere reminiscent of ECM recordings.
