Hoelscher / Karajan / Weil / Welser-Moest - Schottische Fantasie

Composer: Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Max Bruch

When the young Mendelssohn travelled through Scotland in 1829, he was overwhelmed by the austere beauty of the landscape, and he translated his impressions into orchestral scores full of melancholy. Bruch’s highly Romantic Scottish Fantasy likewise combines lovely folk themes with war chants and tender love songs.
