For some twelve years, from 1939 to 1951, the American magazines METRONOME and ESQUIRE asked their readers and sometimes critics to vote for their favourite jazzmen. The winners were then invited to cut a few discs to mark the occasion. Almost all of these recordings have been reunited in this double album. This was also the period of wars, first the heated and then the cold. It was as if the artists were totally unaware of these events.
